    Xavier Pauchard

Famous for bringing the art of galvanizing steel to the furniture world, Xavier Pauchard’s designs are known for strength, stability, and lightness. The designer excelled in metalwork, working tirelessly to create galvanizing techniques to stave off rust. He undoubtedly gleaned inspiration from his father and grandfather, who worked as zinc roofers.

Pauchard started his company in 1918 and specialized in steel household items. After WWI, he designed household furniture both for indoor and outdoor use, including functional chairs, stools, and tables. His work became popular in homes and businesses, including factories, offices, and even cafés.

“A man possessed of an understanding of raw materials - and the tools used to work them.” - Serge Lemoine, former director of Musee d'Orsay, Paris.
