The Finer Details
A cousin of the Egg Chair, the Swan Chair is yet another evocative design that’s unmistakably Arne Jacobsen. Like it’s “cousin," the Swan Chair was designed and made specifically in 1958 for Copenhagen’s Radisson SAS Royal Hotel. And just like the Egg Chair, the Swan possesses a quiet grace with its long curves and sweeping armrests. A classic from the moment of its debut, the Swan Chair has been in production ever since. Looking at the Swan Chair, it’s easy to see how the majestic bird served as inspiration. The backrest fans out to comfortably support the person sitting in, while the armrests curl up smoothly to offer additional comfort. The body perches delicately on a steel support with a brushed aluminium base that stands solidly on four legs.

Interior Icons vs Traditional Retail
By cutting out the middle men and traditional 200-400% markup, we’re able to offer you beautiful, lasting designer furniture at exceptional value.
Known as one of the leading figures of Danish Modern design, Arne Jacobsen changed interior design through the mid-20th century with his simple yet incredible chairs, lighting and other designs.
Like several of his other peers (such as Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen), Jacobsen studied and worked as both architect and furniture designer, with iconic designs in both fields. While his architectural achievements tended to span throughout his career, many of his most notable interior design accomplishments came in the second half of his career.
His career was sharply divided by the Second World War, where he fled to Sweden. Returning to Denmark soon after the war’s end, he showed no signs of slowing down, with many of his best and most popular works conceived in the post-war era.
Creations like the Egg Chair, Swan Chair and the Drop Chair are unmistakably his, while the retro Series 7 Chair has remained in fashion for well over 50 years.
Excellent experience. Very impressed with the careful packaging and our two chairs arrived in perfect shape. Beautiful chairs, made using quality materials. Impressed. Thank you!
I love the chair and I am finding it is extremely comfortable to sit in 9 hours a day with the lumbar support. However, it is really too low to be called a desk chair. The 16” measurement is to the very top of the seat not the bottom. I inquired if there is a solution to raise it an inch, but was told there is not. Other thing to note is that the chair is not nearly as heavy as listed but feels well made.
As designers, my wife and I were attracted to the Swan; it is very handsome, understated, and seems well put together. It is however quite firm, and not comfortable for any “slouching” whatsoever. OK when sitting very upright. Nice fabric ( light gray) chosen to sit in a sunny bay window and not fade. We’re hoping it softens over time.
excellent beautiful and functional but hard. Will add a cushion.
I love everything about the design, the color, the material, the swivel. It is my home office chair amd has great lumbar support. Smallish, more a woman’s chair in size. The negative is it has little padding in the area of the sest and is therefore very hard. No cush in this area.
