Born to French painter and sculptor Victor Prouvé, Jean Prouvé was exposed to artistry at a young age. His father belonged to the Art Nouveau École de Nancy, where he brushed elbows with a multitude of fellow famous artists.
Although Prouvé himself studied to be a blacksmith, he went on to become an engineer. His knowledge, ability, and creativity were paramount in his career, and in 1923 he launched his first workshop in Nancy, France. This was the first of many.
His advice to artists: "Never design anything that cannot be made."
