The Finer Details
An eye-catching piece of modernist design, the Noguchi Coffee Table is as much a work of art as it is a functional piece of furniture. Designed as the Second World War entered its final stages in 1944, the Noguchi Coffee Table is a perfect embodiment of Noguchi’s “everything is sculpture” philosophy. Having entered production in 1947, it’s been made for most of the years since and retains its popularity to this day. Literally balancing fine form with function, the table is a beautiful fit that provides an iconic centerpiece for almost any room in your home. And despite the delicate appearance of both glass and base, the table is surprisingly durable and stable. You can get the table using walnut, one of the original materials used to produce the base. Those wanting a lighter touch may find oak a better choice, while those seeking a darker look will find ash provides a classic, sophisticated finish.

Creativity ran rampant in Isamu Noguchi’s family. His father was a Japanese poet and his mother a Scottish-American writer. Noguchi made his mark on the world as an artist and architect for no less than six decades, beginning in the 1920s. His artistry knew no bounds, with contributions including sculptures from the most abstract to stunningly realistic.
Never one to hold himself back, the designer used everything from stone and metal to wood, clay, bone, and paper to bring his creations to life. He carved, casted, cut, and pounded various objects to produce his unique designs.
"Appreciate the moment," he is known to have said.
