The inspiration
Inspired by his designer friend Florence Knoll, who challenged Saarinen with the task of designing a cozy, relaxing chair worthy of curling up in, Saarinen didn’t waste any time creating just what Knoll had asked for. Gleaning its name from the shape of the chair and the way it cradles the human form, the Womb Chair is perhaps the comfiest, coziest seating solution in designer history.
