Richard Sapper
Beginning as a designer in the styling department at Mercedes-Benz, German-born Richard Sapper soon moved onto consulting for electronics design, most notably the folding Grillo telephone for Siemens, which was the precursor to the clamshell cell phone design. In 1972, Sapper designed the Tizio lamp for Artemide, a desk lamp with low-voltage current conducting arms, which eliminated the need for wires. Focussed on technology and innovation, Sapper is responsible for many of the iconic designs in technology and lighting that we use today.
