Harry Bertoia
Italian-born American Artist Harry Bertoia began his career as a teacher of jewelry design and metal work. In the 1950s, Bertoia designed a range of five wire pieces for the furniture company Knoll, after having met Florence Knoll while studying at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. Experimenting with his lifelong obsessions with metal and air, Bertoia used metal wire to create a structure that was “mainly made of air, like sculpture”. The most famous of these designs is the Diamond Chair.
